S. 4379: Countering Russia's War on Faith Act

Senate companion to H.R. 8433. Identical provisions: designates Russia as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) for severe religious freedom violations, mandates targeted sanctions on perpetrators of religious persecution in occupied Ukraine, supports victim recovery, and codifies State Department review of Russia's State Sponsor of Terrorism designation.

Why it matters

Since Russia's full scale invasion in 2022, more than 630 religious sites have been damaged or destroyed in Ukraine. Clergy across denominations have been imprisoned, tortured, abducted, and killed in occupied territories. S. 4379 is the Senate companion to H.R. 8433 with the same provisions: targeted sanctions on perpetrators, Country of Particular Concern designation for Russia, victim support, and review of Russia's State Sponsor of Terrorism status. The bill is currently stalled in Foreign Relations with zero cosponsors. Call both of your senators and ask them to cosponsor.
